Danish Kaneria’s 5-62 for Sindh against Younis Khan’s North West Frontier Province team set up a mouth-watering climax on Wednesday in the Pentangular Cup.
Younis, after seeing his side achieve a small first innings lead after making 203 before bowling Sindh out for 149, cracked 111 against the dangerous leg-spin of Kaneria and the Sindh attack to take his side to 254. No other batsman managed more than 26, to show Younis’s majesty on a tricky pitch in Karachi.
Sindh’s openers strangely made light of the run chase as they reached 130 without loss at the close of the third and penultimate day, in pursuit of 309. Pakistan new boy Khurram Manzoor has 74 and Khalid Latif is on 56.
It was Kaneria’s 43rd five-wicket haul in first-class cricket, while his best friend and Pakistan and Habib Bank colleague Younis notched the 31st first-class hundred of his career.
