I was appalled at what happened to the Sri Lanka team in Lahore - this was a deplorable act and it's completely unacceptable. They were our guests and it's awful to see such incidents happening. We can't turn a blind eye to these things.
I think the Sri Lankan players dealt with this very serious incident with great dignity and were courteous and just took the incident in their stride. I was surprised by their reaction as they just said it was ‘a bad experience’ and they have no ill-feeling towards Pakistan as a country, which is very good of them to say so.
The attack took everyone by surprise because no team has ever come under fire in Pakistan despite the security situation in our country. There is no doubt it is going to be very difficult to convince teams to tour Pakistan after this. Even if some team comes we will have to take extraordinary security measures.
Thank God we decided to leave our hotel five minutes after the Sri Lankans. We normally leave together, but today we were delayed and the Sri Lankan team went ahead of us. We are a young team and it would have been catastrophic had both buses gone together.
We are thankful that none of the players suffered fatal injuries and the courage of the bus driver must be praised. I heard Murali presented him with a team shirt and that was a nice gesture and well deserved.
It is very sad that I have been in the team during three very bad incidents. The Oval Test in 2006, the death of our coach Bob Woolmer at the 2007 World Cup and now this. We as Pakistani people need to change things and stop these terrorists from spoiling our cricket.
This attack was very draining emotionally and we have been trying to keep our players calm. We should all be thankful no one from the Sri Lankan team was killed.
